School Bus Seat Belts; The Debate

By Associated Engineering Press

School buses already meet high crash standards. The government’s school bus rules date back to the 70’s. They’re designed around the idea of putting kids in a padded compartment. If a bus crashes in the front or the rear, children will be kept within their seats as the bus stops. Back in the mid 90’s safety researchers began looking at school bus accidents where the bus was hit on the side, or rolled over. It found compartments leave kids vulnerable.

In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s College of Engineering has more than 5,200 students and more than 170 faculty. In recent years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater, Hollings, Portz, Boren, Mitchell and Truman scholars.
