Shelby County student earns $1,000 Alfa Foundation Scholarship

Jacob Odom of Birmingham, a graduate of Briarwood Christian High School, received a $1,000 scholarship from the Alfa Foundation. Odom is a freshman at the University of Alabama studying civil engineering. In its fifth year, the Alfa Foundation Scholarship Program has awarded $450,000 in scholarships to Alabama college students.

In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s College of Engineering has more than 5,200 students and more than 170 faculty. In recent years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater, Hollings, Portz, Boren, Mitchell and Truman scholars.
