If you live in this state you have to be weather aware. You just have to. You don’t have a choice if you live in this state, I’ll just be honest with you.” Eight years ago today Alabama was hit with one of its worst weather disasters on record … Dr. Laura Myers, a social scientist and director of the University of Alabama’s Center for Advanced Public Safety, has seen it too while studying the way people react to weather events. “We don’t want to react unless we absolutely have to,” she said.

In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s College of Engineering has more than 5,200 students and more than 170 faculty. In recent years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater, Hollings, Portz, Boren, Mitchell and Truman scholars.
