Dr. Kalyan K. Srinivasan has been appointed head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Lee J. Styslinger Jr. College of Engineering.
After beginning his professional career in academia at Mississippi State University, he joined UA in 2017 as an associate professor before being promoted to professor in 2021. Srinivasan received both his master’s and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University. He has served as interim department head since 2024.
“The College has been instrumental in shaping my perspective on mentorship, innovation and leadership,” said Srinivasan. “I’m excited to work with our faculty and students to advance the department’s excellence, expand opportunities and prepare engineers who will make meaningful contributions to our society.”
Srinivasan has contributed to leading combustion research alongside UA faculty and international researchers. He has authored more than 90 publications, with research featured in The International Journal of Engines Research and Combustion Science and Technology. His work has been supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Education and U.S. Department of Defense.
