Mixing it Up

By Associated Engineering Press

Like Reese’s peanut butter cups, sometimes the right mixture lends itself to a perfect combination. That’s the case for UA students who are mixing their majors and finding it’s fast becoming a formula for success.

Take students Samantha Walker and Holly Poole who are signed up for the Dual Enrollment in Civil Engineering and MBA program created by Dr. Ken Fridley, head of the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering. Walker and Poole are two participants of the STEM Path to the MBA program, also working toward a Dual Masters in Civil Engineering and an MBA. They are the first students to combine these two programs during their undergraduate careers.

In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s College of Engineering has more than 5,200 students and more than 170 faculty. In recent years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater, Hollings, Portz, Boren, Mitchell and Truman scholars.
