The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded the University of Alabama a $15,000 grant to study the effectiveness of ultraviolet LED lights and a laser in killing waterborne pathogens.
It will last until Aug. 15, 2015, with the goal of informing the design of the ultraviolet LED units. A team of University of Alabama students are to take on the project. Sources: Al.com, The Tuscaloosa News, Beta Wired, Undercover Michigan
In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s College of Engineering has more than 5,200 students and more than 170 faculty. In recent years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater, Hollings, Portz, Boren, Mitchell and Truman scholars.
