When it comes to weather in Alabama, no matter what time of year, there’s just one thing to do: “Prepare for it to be bad.” “The warning process has improved so much that there is less opportunity for desensitization,” said Dr. Laura Myers, deputy director and research scientist at The Center for Advanced Public Safety at the University of Alabama. “Warnings are more accurate now, so people have begun to have more faith in them.”
In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s College of Engineering has more than 5,200 students and more than 170 faculty. In recent years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater, Hollings, Portz, Boren, Mitchell and Truman scholars.
