Nguyen makes UA home by jumping into new experiences

By Associated Engineering Press

Coming to America to attend college was a no-brainer for Vietnamese international student Phuong Nguyen, a sophomore electrical engineering major who loves to try new things.

“The United States is the biggest economy in the world, and to go to a university here offers so many more opportunities for my education,” Nguyen said. “The quality of education is much better, and there is much more freedom and opportunity to improve myself and enhance my knowledge.”

In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s College of Engineering has more than 5,200 students and more than 170 faculty. In recent years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater, Hollings, Portz, Boren, Mitchell and Truman scholars.
