Dr. Laura Myers provides common sense weather safety tips

This is Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Alabama. Chief Meteorologist Richard Scott has special reports all week, designed to help you and your family stay safe. In this report, Richard visits the Center for Advanced Public Safety at The University of Alabama, with some common sense safety information. The University of Alabama Center for Advanced Public Safety is made up of over 100 employees. The goal here is assisting federal, state and local agencies by providing access to current research and cutting-edge technology in public safety. Dr. Laura Myers in the center’s director. She says memories of April 27, 2011 tornadoes changed everything.

In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s College of Engineering has more than 5,200 students and more than 170 faculty. In recent years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater, Hollings, Portz, Boren, Mitchell and Truman scholars.
