Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama on Wednesday hosted the West Alabama One Smart Cookie Celebration at the Tuscaloosa River Market. The event served to raise money for the organization, recognize outstanding Women of Distinction in West Alabama, and showcase the impact local Girl Scouts have on their community. Pam Parker, former vice president of advancement at the University of Alabama and the founder of Philanthropic Partners LLC, earned the Alice Williams Community Impact Award. Women of Distinction awards were presented to: Kellee Reinhart, senior vice chancellor for communications and community relations at the University of Alabama System.

In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s College of Engineering has more than 5,200 students and more than 170 faculty. In recent years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater, Hollings, Portz, Boren, Mitchell and Truman scholars.
