Alabama steel-manufacturer AM/NS Calvert recently made a donation of face shields and “ear savers” to the University of South Alabama Children’s & Women’s Hospital.  A release from the company detailed that AM/NS Calvert collaborated with their long term partners at the University of Alabama for innovative solutions to meet the needs of frontline health care providers in the state.  Through an ongoing five-year partnership between AM/NS Calvert and “The Cube” (a printing lab at the University of Alabama College of Engineering), the face shields were 3D printed and configured for donation locally in Mobile, near the company’s main steel processing plant.

In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s College of Engineering has more than 5,200 students and more than 170 faculty. In recent years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater, Hollings, Portz, Boren, Mitchell and Truman scholars.
