We are pleased and honored to announce that HHB Engineer’s President, Barbara H. McCrary, PE, was awarded Engineer of the Year this week at the Engineering Council of Birmingham (ECOB) 62nd Annual Engineering Awards Ceremony. Candidates for EOY are over the age of 35, and nominated from various organizations that include a wide range from educational, professional, and specialty trade associations. These organizations are all related to the fields of engineering, technology, construction, consulting, as well as promotion and education of students for these related fields in industry. There are currently 14 member organizations in ECOB. McCrary was nominated by the Birmingham Chapter of the American Society of Heating Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) for outstanding achievement in the application of heating, refrigeration, and air-conditioning technology.

The ECOB was founded in the 1950’s to coordinate activities and communications among local engineering societies in the Birmingham Alabama area. In the last few years the ECOB has expanded its geographical area to extend north from the cities of Anniston to Gadsden to Tuscaloosa and south to Montgomery and Central Alabama.

In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s College of Engineering has more than 5,200 students and more than 170 faculty. In recent years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater, Hollings, Portz, Boren, Mitchell and Truman scholars.
