Grant money allocated for targeted traffic enforcement

Just in time for the Labor Day weekend, the governor’s office announced 18 counties will get $1.2 million to help improve traffic safety in East-Central Alabama. Funds will be allocated to police and sheriff’s departments based on data provided by the University of Alabama’s Center for Advanced Public Safety which helps pinpoint “hot spots” or areas most prone to crashes, speeding and reckless driving. In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s College of Engineering has more than 5,200 students and more than 170 faculty. In recent years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater, Hollings, Portz, Boren, Mitchell and Truman scholars.
