By the time you finish reading this sentence, a hypersonic weapon could have flown from Mobile to Huntsville, where Lockheed Martin Space is researching and developing just such a device … Xiaowen Wang, an assistant professor of aerospace engineering at the University of Alabama, studies the behavior of hypersonic craft and offers insight into the nature of hypersonic flight. “I am focusing on how air flows around the vehicle,” Wang says.
In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s College of Engineering has more than 5,200 students and more than 170 faculty. In recent years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater, Hollings, Portz, Boren, Mitchell and Truman scholars.
