TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Dr. Sameer Mulani, associate professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics, was elected to the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics 2025 Associate Fellowship.
The AIAA Associate Fellowship honors individuals of distinction who have made notable and valuable contributions to the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics and astronautics. The selection process is highly competitive, with approximately 17% of AIAA members being elected associate fellows.
Mulani was selected for his significant contributions to uncertainty quantification, polynomial chaos, and structural optimization, especially bioinspired, curvilinear stiffened panel and supersonic wings, self-healing composites, and aerospace structures education.
“I am grateful for this international recognition, which reflects the hard work of my research team, including my fellow mentors, students, and peers,” Mulani said. “This will further promote collaboration with academics, government agencies, and commercial industries for future aerospace vehicle innovation.”
As an AIAA fellow, Mulani will serve as the 2025 Non-Deterministic Approaches Conference deputy technical chair and 2026 NDA technical chair-elect.
AIAA will formally honor and induct the 2025 class at its Associate Fellows Induction Ceremony on Jan. 8, 2025, in Orlando, Florida. The ceremony will occur during the 2025 AIAA SciTech Forum and Exposition from Jan. 6-10, 2025.
