Distinguished professorships are among the highest honors in The University of Alabama System. Garrett Busch, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering, was selected as the fall 2025 Outstanding Co-op Student by the Engineering Career Development Center. Busch recently completed his third term with Hunt Refining Company in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he worked in plant engineering, developing work packages for piping modifications, preparing cost estimates, and collaborating with vendors and contractors to support mechanical and electrical projects.

In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s College of Engineering has more than 5,800 students and more than 150 faculty. In recent years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater, Hollings, Portz, Boren, Mitchell and Truman scholars.
